ABOUT THE EHJLS PROGRAM
The EHJLS is a 501 (C) 3 nonprofit sports entity that organizes competitive and developmental basketball teams for ANY girl grades 5-8 wishing to participate. The program has been in existence since 2003 and a great deal of people are involved in making this organization strong and enjoyable. Volunteers that support and help run our program have coached or had their kids play in the program and are anxious to see it grow.

EHJLS provides a venue and format to encourage the development of young girls while they learn the values of team sport and play. We try and help foster the idea of using the confidence they gain from these endeavors into becoming the best possible representatives of their sport and community.

Our Mission

Our mission is to teach and develop fundamental basketball skills in a competitive atmosphere and help prepare girls from all backgrounds for future involvement in the East High Girls Basketball Program.

  • To become better students, athletes, and citizens. To maintain a minimum B average in the classroom.

  • To improve individual player skills each and every year.

  • To generate enthusiasm, excitement, and support for East High Girls Basketball.
  • To provide an opportunity for girls to develop fundamental basketball skills.
  • To expose those aspiring to compete at EHS to our basketball system.
  • Work HARD, work SMART and have FUN!
The EHJLS host annual try-outs for ANY youth grades 5th-8th  wishing to participate. Try-outs are held during late August or early September at East High School. Volunteer and high school coaches coordinates and facilitates try-outs, and makes the final selections.
EHJLS strives to field teams at two competition levels (Red and Black) in each age group, pending the number of players available. Coaches are solely responsible for determining the appropriate level of play. In the event that we are not able to field a second team, the program will select the top10 players and reserve the right to select 2 alternates if so desired. Parents and athletes are notified by mail or phone in the event they are not selected.
Is designed for players who have extensive experience playing organized basketball and skills are advanced for the average player their age. This level will also provide a unique opportunity to compete in AAU caliber tournaments, which allow them to play in a highly competitive setting.
Is designed for young players who are just beginning and have little experience playing organized basketball and skills are average to below average for players their age.  This level will participate in local leagues and some school-based tournaments, which allows them to play at an appropriate skill level.

Length Of Season

The length of the basketball season will be 5-7 months, beginning in October and ending in February or March for most teams. This may vary pending specified level of play, tournament availability, and fundraising efforts/finances.

Practices for your child team will begin no later than October. Practices will be held at a minimum of 2 times per week, but coaches may choose to practice more frequently at their discretion. Practices will be held at local schools, churches, community centers, etc.

Tournaments/Leagues

The majority of the teams will compete in a minimum of 1-2 tournaments per month or league play pending availability.  Teams participating in league play will participate in significantly less tournaments.

Black Level Team(s)- Will participate in league play primarily during the year and some tournaments pending competition level and availability. Coaches at this level are strongly encouraged to compete in local leagues and some tournaments pending level of competition. Periodically the availability of leagues is scarce and could potentially impact on the length of the season.

Red Level Team(s)- Will Not Participate in leagues, because of the level of competition. Red Level teams are expected to participate in
traveling Club tournaments, AAU, MAYB, etc. However, in the event a coach wishes to participate in a league for any reason, this will be a decision made in conjunction with the Head Coach at East High.
To ensure that players take care of business in the classrooms, coaches are expected to conduct
bi-weekly academic reports. Players will be required to submit bi-weekly reports to their coach, which will remain on file. If a player has a failing grade in any subject due to lack of effort, conduct, or attendance, they WILL be withheld from competition and practices at the discretion of the head coach, with respect to the existing guidelines outlined by the school. Participation in the program is a privilege, not a right. Athletes may be dismissed at any time due to poor academic and/or behavioral performance in the classroom.

NOTE: Players must submit a copy of their report card to the coach at the conclusion of each grading period!
